Gameweek 38 – The Finale

In 2010/11 on May 22, 2011 at 11:25 am

So here it is. The final gameweek of another fantasy premier league season. We’ve had double gameweeks, goals and of course bonus points.

The final gameweek is always the most difficult to call in my opinion. First of all – do you have anything to play? At this point in the season most fantasy premier leagues have been wrapped up {sadly my crown was taking this year for the 1st time in 4 years} so there is a distinct lack of interest in gameweek 38. Those in with a chance of winning their league generally play it very safe. Those who don’t have a chance just go mental and put in randoms like Sammy Ameobi or Kazenga Lua Lua.

Are they playing?
More than any other gameweek a place in the starting line up is key. The final game of the season is a funny time of the year. Managers pick bizzarre teams. Most league positions are already determined so they use this game as the opportunity to play a few youth players. West Ham have said they’ll play their team for next season.  United will be playing their 2nd string.  Will players like Carlos Tevez, looking for a transfer get a game?

Do they have anything to play for?
The second most important factor in the final gameweek of the season has to be if they have anything to play for.  Relegation battle.  Get them in.  The chase for 3rd / 4th place.  Get them in.  Fight for 5th / 6th.  Get them in.  The big players for Wigan, Wolves, Birmingham, Blackpool and Blackburn have got to be attractive.  The Zog.  Charlie Adam. Steven Fletcher.

With automatic qualification in the Champions League, up for grabs Arsenal and Man City surely will be playing strong teams.  For Spurs and Liverpool a place in the UEFA cup is up for grabs.  Whether they want it or not, surely they will have full strength teams out.

Either way gameweek 38 is the hardest fantasy premier league week to call for me.  Good luck for your team and thanks for reading this season.

Look out for an It’s all about the bonus points review of the fantasy premier league season 2010/11 next week, before signing off for the summer.
