Gameweek 29 – The Dongle

In 2010/11 on March 9, 2011 at 10:05 pm

I’m sitting here in front of Spurs vs. AC Milan, writing my blog courtesy of a dongle.  Long live the dongle.  It has been a funny few weeks in fantasy premier league. None more so than gameweek 29.

The injuries
Gameweek 29 has seen a lot of injuries to big and small players; Nani – cut, Cesc – torn, RvP – ruptured, Martin Kelly – tweaked, Barry Ferguson – cracked, Barton – pulled, Szczesny – dislocated, Rio – merked.  The list goes on.  With this many popular players being injured makes for a low scoring gameweek.

Lack of – clean sheets
At the time of writing only 3/11 games are showing clean sheets.  Everton have just equalised in their double gameweek at home to Birmingham hampering Ben Foster’s hopes of keeping one.  With the big boys injured clean sheets were essentially for a big score in gameweek 29 and they were few and far between.

Is the big boy back?
Once upon a time there was a rule in fantasy premier league.  Back a midfield general and back Frank Lampard as captain. With Fat Frank as captain you were basically guaranteed big points and bonus points each gameweek.  This season though that gamble would have back fired.  He started the season pretty well with 15 points in the first 3 games but then was injured for much of the middle of the season.  However the last 5 games have seen the big boy back to his best.  In that time he has a monster; 44 points, 3 goals, 2 assists and 7 bonus points.  The fat man is back.
